Jaakko Anttila landed his first job at T-DRILL when he was just 15 years old. Having grown up in Laihia, Anttila was already very familiar with the company. Today, he works at T-DRILL as an Export Manager. In the intervening years, he earned two degrees, held various positions at different companies, and even worked as an entrepreneur.
— I enjoy variety. Workdays that are exactly the same wouldn’t suit me. I’ve always gravitated toward roles that offer variety.
Anttila holds qualifications in automation installation and electrical engineering. He worked for eight years as a field service engineer at a major Finnish energy company and ran a business with two friends for a few years. Seeking a more stable career, Anttila turned his attention back to the company he already knew well.
— T-DRILL hired me as a customer service engineer. Three and a half years later, the pandemic hit, and a new opportunity arose. After working for another company for a year and a half, I returned. I have been working as an Export Manager since May.
For Anttila, returning to T-DRILL was an easy decision. Beyond his familiarity with the company, he values the stability T-DRILL offers.
— T-DRILL is a stable and reliable company and employer. I can rest easy knowing that the bills will get paid. Leveraging personal skills and interests adds variety to the work
Although Anttila has found the stability he was looking for, he hasn’t had to sacrifice the variety he also desired. As an Export Manager, Anttila is responsible for developing and supporting sales in the countries and customer segments within his area of responsibility. This coming autumn, Anttila will travel to several countries for work and delve even deeper into his diverse range of tasks.
“We can take on tasks outside our core job descriptions as much as we like. My work here isn’t just about sales; we get to participate in various development projects and voice our opinions. Personal skills, hobbies, and personality traits are also taken into account and can become part of the work itself. For instance, thanks to my IT skills, I got involved in developing our company’s CRM system.”
A modern workplace offering flexibility and challenges
For Anttila, the variety of tasks is one of the best things about working at T-DRILL. SMEs offer employees a level of flexibility that larger companies cannot match.
“In a larger company, the scope of work is often very limited. You do the job you’ve been assigned, and that’s it. Working at T-DRILL presents me with different challenges every day. It keeps things interesting.”
According to Anttila, both the work culture and the facilities at T-DRILL have evolved significantly in recent years.
“This is a contemporary, modern workplace. And best of all—I genuinely like the people I work with here at T-DRILL.”
