Mikko Tekoniemi has gained professional experience at two Leinolat Group companies during his career. He began his career as a pipe bender at Uwira and currently works as an Export Manager at T-DRILL.
“I started my career at Leinolat Group in 2011. I was looking for new challenges, and a friend working at Uwira tipped me off that they had job openings. Although I originally qualified as a welder, I started at Uwira as a pipe bender. I did that job for three years until, following organizational changes, I was offered the opportunity to undergo supervisor training.”
Initially, Mikko performed supervisory duties alongside his work as a pipe bender, but eventually, he transitioned fully from the production floor to an office role.
“I completed the supervisor training alongside my day job. After working as a supervisor for some time, I also took on responsibility for cost and quotation calculations. I had a solid foundation for that task because I had started my career at the beginning of the production process.”
Mikko is currently in his third year of studying International Business at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. Both companies have supported his further education, and he also sourced the topic for his thesis from T-DRILL.
The group’s companies offer a vantage point into various business areas
According to Mikko, the atmosphere among the companies is open and unpretentious. This is evidenced by the fact that the companies collaborate and explore joint business opportunities.
“Working at Leinolat Group provides excellent opportunities to get to know different areas of business. Leimec, Kilkanen, and Uwira offer the chance to be part of the energy cluster, as they operate as subcontractors for major energy-sector companies. At T-DRILL, you get to experience international trade and exports—all while based in Laihia,” Mikko explains.
Approximately 85% of Leinolat Group’s products go to customers located on every continent.
“In my current role, I am responsible for handling requests for quotation and developing sales in my assigned regions. My sales territory covers Africa, South America, the Baltic states, Poland, Austria, and Finland.”
In other words, during a single workday, Mikko might interact with customers ranging from those in Tampere to those in Rio de Janeiro.
Mikko’s tips for accelerating career growth
“You have to boldly seize new opportunities and handle your current tasks to the best of your ability. At Uwira, it was easy to take on different roles because my colleagues and management were ready to help and support me. I’ve noticed that same spirit at T-DRILL, too,” Mikko concludes.
Leinolat Group encourages its employees to develop their skills, for instance by offering training. Mikko appreciates the various opportunities and support Leinolat Group has provided over the years. Uwira and T-DRILL are part of Leinolat Group; the group’s other companies are Leimec and Kilkanen. Together, these companies can offer highly demanding and comprehensive metal industry service packages.
